Top 10 tips for Happiness

Wednesday, 16 April 2014
This is more of different post than my usual stuff, after being at university and being plunged into this new place with loads of weird people I didn't know, I just found it hard just to fit anywhere.. I felt so low about just this whole new experience when I didn't need to be. I guess this post could be applicable to anybody whether you're down in the dumps or just want to improve your lifestyle. These are just some of the things I'm trying out right now to improve my lifestyle, self-worth and happiness!

1. Say YES to almost anything.
Sure, you're in a miserable mood.. you don't want to speak to anyone let alone be around people you have never met before and try to come up with all this crappy small-talk. You're anxious about going and your room is just warm, cosy and you just want to curl up in front of the TV with a takeaway. Stop. Going out creates so many more opportunity's that you just can't miss out on. Too many times have I wanted to just sleep for the whole day and missed out on so many great things and just regretted them afterwards.

2. Create Opportunity's
Stop moping around and waiting on that phone call to motivate you.. If no-one is interested in organizing things to do.. be the organizer! Phone up all those old friends and plan a get together, a catch up. All those awkward acquaintances you met in the pub that one night and you were kind of drunk.. so you're unsure if they're actually your mate or not... give them a Facebook message or a text, plan something and you'll be surprised!
Put yourself out there and people will notice!

3. Stop relying on other people for happiness.
So many people do this everyday. Myself included. Feeling lost and lonely being bored because all your mates are busy or there's no-one else around to drive with you to the nearest Maccy D's to fuel your junk food addiction sure does suck... Sure people might be busy but there's still no reason to mope around and watch crappy daytime television all day. Go out, get up early, have a shower, put your slap on, make yourself feel beautiful and step out into the beautiful world on your own.

4. Improve your self-esteem.
Sure life can bring you down sometimes and often we find our self esteem is bruised in some way. Unless you're one of those lucky people who think they they are fabulous 100% of the time, then your self esteem can do with some building. Do something positive for yourself, write your best qualities on a piece of paper... create a diary, make a photo album.. a scrapbook, something visual you can look at on those rainy days and think
'Hey I'm not that bad!'

5. Look after yourself.
We all need abit of pampering from time to time, eat more healthy, run one of those lovely fancy baths with petals.. someone's got to make ourselves feel better and sometimes that person can just be yourself! Start drinking more water, eating more healthy and getting more zzz's on a nighttime. Your body will feel better and so will you!

6. Know who you can trust.
You could have millions of friends, but who is really worth your time.. Who can you trust with your secrets? Having these sorts of friends does wonders, wanting a chat without feeling judged. Sometimes it's nice to get all those pent-up emotions out to someone you know can understand.. If you have trust issues.. There's a whole internet out there with people who are willing to help or just be a listener!

7. You have a right to be beautiful - Embrace it!
Get up, get dressed, make yourself feel beautiful. If that means putting makeup on do it, put your favorite clothes on and go out and treat yourself to things that make you feel special. Buy some new clothes or that dress you have had your eye on for ages. Sure money can't buy you happiness but making yourself feel good about your appearance can instantly lift your mood.

8. Get Creative!
I find that by doing something creatively opens up my mind to lots of different ideas and concepts. If you have a hobby, use it to get creative. If you don't have any creative hobbies, have a browse on Pinterest, see what crafty things you could make, or even just cooking something different for a change! I recently just started making my own scrapbook, every time I finish a page I feel accomplished and proud of what I've created.

9. Treat yourself
Like I said money can't always buy you happiness, especially when you have a student budget like mine. But treating yourself to things can lift your mood, especially if you have wanted an item for a long time. But if you don't want to spend anything just treat yourself by indulging in your own time. Have a bath, make time for yourself.. or just have a gander into that coffee shop you've always wanted to visit and read a book.
Treating yourself doesn't always have to be with money.

10. Be content with what you have.
This is a tip that recently I have been trying to put into my life. Just being content with everything I have. Write a list of all the things you 'have' and reflect on just how special those things are. Make a day of reflection. Be grateful for the things that you do have. Family, friends, a place to sleep, good memories.. When you break down your life and look at the things you are lucky enough to have you realize that sometimes happiness is staring right at you in the face.
Stop chasing things you don't have and love the things that you do.

Abit of a different post to normal but it was also quite personal at the same time. Moving to a different place and almost starting all over is a hard thing! I hope you enjoyed reading, If there's any of the tips you would like me to dwell further into leave me a comment!
